New Course Offering
The COGIC Academy of Greater North Carolina, an affiliate of the C. H. Mason Jurisdictional Institutes+, headed by Supt. Clarence Freeman, is expanding their course offerings to include a course entitled: Legal Ramifications in Ministry. The course will include such topics as sexual harassment, a saint’s code of conduct, tax matters, legal liabilities, and a vast array of other pertinent issues. This course was the brainchild of the Educational Committee and was added to the curriculum in light of all the recent court cases and litigations that have plagued our churches in the last decade. The Educational Committee of Greater North Carolina saw a need to be pro-active in this area as to better prepare our young elders and missionaries as they take their places on the battlefield against sin and the works of satan. They will be enrolling in their first class during the Summer Semester of the Institute, which is scheduled to begin on May 8, 2010. Attorney Yvonne Watford-McKinney, a graduate and a class valedictorian of the COGIC Academy of Greater North Carolina, will be the instructor of this historical course. This course promises to be a model that will be used in the other Jurisdictional Institutes throughout the National Church. We are excited about what the Lord is doing.
2010 Annual Senior Retreat
The graduating class of 2010 of the COGIC Academy of Greater North Carolina is making plans to attend the 17th Annual Senior Retreat on July 9, through July 11, 2010. This event will be hosted by the Educational Committee of the Academy and will be held at the Quality Inn & Suites in Greensboro North Carolina. The Retreat is a culmination of two years of hard work and personal sacrifices that have evolved into a time of reflection and inspiration. The students receive their honors and accolades; the class valedictorian and class salutatorian are named and each student will get a chance to ‘strut their stuff”. Normally this event is well attended by Jurisdictional officials even the Jurisdictional Prelate (Bishop LeRoy Jackson Woolard) and the Jurisdictional Supervisor (Mother Mary Love Greene). The excitement is running high, the agenda has been set, the caterer has been engaged, students are ready and the atmosphere is charged with the spirit of expectancy. The students will be utilizing the knowledge attained while attending the Institute over the past two years as they perform the Ordinances of the Church, Mock Water Baptism and Feet Washing, Holy Communion, Witnessing Role-Playing and delivering Sermons and Messages. This is a fun packed weekend which is the highlight of the COGIC Academy Experience. It rates right next to the actual Commencement which will be held on July 24, 2010.
