Greetings in the matchless name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I want to thank each of you for making the year of 2009 our best ever. Your sacrifice was simply outstanding and I appreciate you so much.

With the momentum that we currently have, we are planning for an outstanding 2010. All Directors are in the process of developing the framework for their curriculum for 2010. There will be an Sunday School University (SSU) conference call after the first of the year. Our Class and curriculum deadline is February 15th, 2010. If you are interested in presenting material for consideration for presentation during AIM, please email me at dscurles@cogic.org. Let’s work to be organized to have another great year!!

The second purpose of this letter is to ask your support in a very special way. As each of you know, every year our esteemed President, Bishop Alton Gatlin is faced with enormous financial pressure when building the Sunday School Convention in preparation for our National AIM Convention. The estimated cost is $17,000 for our Convention space for the week!! The Lord put on my heart to share with you a very special way that you can be a blessing to the work of the Sunday School Department. Sow a seed of $58 into the work and expect your miracle.

The reason I say expect a miracle, is because that is exactly what you’re going to receive from the Lord when you step out in faith and sow this $58 dollars. Why is 58 significant? Well, the Spiritual numeric definition of the number 5 is Grace, Rom 3:24, 2Cor 12:9 and the number 8 is New Beginning. 2 Peter 2:5, 1 Peter 3:20, Col 2:11. Key point is God has freely given to us his grace and favor to have a new beginning in any area of our life. Job 22:27, 28 tells us if we pay our vow ($58 can be paid as a vow) we can decree a thing and it shall be established unto you. It works, this consistent sowing and decreeing has changed my life. The miracles that God has done for me are endless. I started sowing this seed every week over two years ago and God has not released me yet and now, I don’t ever want to be released. Get in on the blessing so you can live a “Spectacular Life”

If 300 dedicated people who believe God for their Miracle sowed a vow contribution of $58 we would have 17,400.00 to pay for the work. We would be debt free going into 2010 and the result is, we will all be blessed in a greater way for helping our leadership do Sunday School Ministry and underwrite the cost. Remember, if you help another man’s dream to work, God will bless your dream to work.

Respectfully and sincerely submitted,

Elder Darrak M. Scurles

Dean of Education and Training

The name of the church I am a member of is The Holy Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Youngstown Ohio. To keep the interest of the student of the Sunday School we created a application for the different position in the Sunday school and have the kids fill out the application of there choice for the position they would like to work in. This will give those who never filled out a job application before learn how to fill one out. Plus give them what its like to apply for a job and be interviewed.

Once the student decide what position they want. We set a weekly or biweekly pay for that position and pay them with fake money and they can buy different things from our Sunday School store.

We announced in August that we were having a contest for a new Sunday School Theme song just for our local assembly at New Mt. Zion COGIC in St. Louis. The song had to be catchy, short and sung before the entire Sunday School. We had ten contestants to sign up. The prize was a $50 gift card. The age of the contestants ranged from 19 to 77. It was so much fun!The creativity was outstanding. Word quickly spread throughout the church and into the jurisdiction. Since the judging was done by ballot, there were no hard feelings but a wonderful time by the Sunday school. They want to do it again next year. Since you had to be a member of Sunday School to participate, the interest is growing, which is great for the church. Secondly, we give weekly homework out to our Sunday School class. they love the challenge. If they get all the questions correct, they get a Sunday school dollar. This is not real money, but is used to purchase items from a store built by one of our elders in the church kitchen. Students purchase CD’s, bibles, tee shirts and other Christian material when they have enough money to shop. We absolutely love our Sunday School! Thanks to Superintendent Odneal and Pastor Jessie Smith, Jr.
