Identifying, Helping through Sunday School
Bishop Alton Gatlin
The Body of Christ is under attack in the area of marriage and family now more than ever. The following discussion starters will identify problem areas in your current relationship and perhaps cause you to rethink one you are contemplating now. This is meant as a discussion starter and a way to help you look beyond emotions to facts. I pray it will help you as you discuss these issues in Sunday school, Men’s Retreats and other functions designed to look at marriage and relationships.
I. Courtship History
A. Where did you meet?
B. What attracted you to your mate (spouse)?
C. What were the four reasons you wanted to marry her?
II. Marital Preparation
A. Length of time you knew her prior to marriage?
B. Looking back, how well did you know her?
C. Did you receive premarital counseling?
III. Personal Information
A. Any significant health problems? Your spouse?
B. Date of your last complete physical?
C. Time spent in enjoyable hobbies?
D. Time spent in significant conversation with spouse each day
IV. Marital Evaluation
A. How much time do you spend together?
B. Name five task or behaviors your wife does that you appreciate.
C. List five personal qualities of her that you appreciate.
D. List four important request your spouse has for you at this time.
Allow your relationship with other couples, men or women to explore where others may be in these issues as compared to you. This should serve as the beginning of discussions to help you please and grow with each other. It should be a guide to what singles should expect and consider before saying “I do.”
